Question:

I have a S&b intake and MBRP (#S6242409) exhaust system, and I want to put a spartan tuner and dpf delete on my truck. I do a lot of towing and want to increase my MPG, which system would work best for me and what would I need to purchase?

Answer:

All you will need to purchase is the Spartan Tuner with a DPF/DOC Delete pipe for either stock exhaust, or 4″ aftermarket. If you go 4″ aftermarket, it will connect to the 4″ section of your MBRP exhaust instead of the 3.5″ section. However, that is everything you would need to buy to get better power and more importantly better fuel mileage.

Current setup: the truck has Triple Dog GT tuner with stock exhaust. Only get around 15 to 16 MPG. Looking to get 5′ exhaust but would like to delete CAT/DPF. My concern is transmition was not intended for HP of tuners.

The transmissions in 6.4′s can take a lot of abuse if tuned by the proper tuner. Bully Dog is one of the worst for transmissions since they do not tune it. The trans do not start to show signs of wear until you start adding 250+HP to the rear wheels. At that point you would have around 500RWHP, which is plenty for most people. You can do a basic tuner and you will not have to worry about the trans at all. Typically customers see 3-5 more MPG overall, but you could see more than that. Like I said before, unless you want to add 250+HP, you will not have to worry about the trans at all.

The power levels are not the same for the 6.0 Powerstroke. Instead of the Spartan, I would recommend the SCT with custom tunes from Innovative Diesel for the 6.0. Those are going to be by far the best tunes out there, just like Spartan is one of the best tuners for the 6.4 Powerstroke.

It all depends on what you are looking for. The tuners are very different so its easy to decide. If you want a monitor to stay on the dash so you can watch the engine temps, you will want the Spartan tuner. You can also unplug that tuner at any time if you wanted. The SCT is going to be a programmer you will just plug in, tune, and unplug it. its very big and bulky so no one actually uses it for a monitor.

We know many of you have lots of questions about installing these tuners and DPF delete kits.

Well, here are some dpf install instructions (with pictures) posted on our site about how to install the SCT with DPF/CAT pipe. We hope you enjoy.
